About an hour

In our 2nd Opportunity on how to support wildlife during the winter months, this week we're talking about birds. There are a variety of entirely-free options to help along with others that have nominal costs.

Bird feeders can help attract birds to your space during the winter when natural food sources might be buried beneath snow or limited in supply. Our friends at the Audubon Society have some helpful Dos and Don'ts for winter bird feeding.

🐦 DO: Use tube feeders, suet feeders, or hopper feeders.

🐦‍⬛ DON'T: Place bird seed directly on the ground or use platform feeders (as these can attract deer or other unwanted guests).

🏠 As for SHELTER, your (free) brush piles can act as shelter from winter storms. OR, you can amp-it-up by using bird nest boxes.

HOW CAN YOU HELP BIRDS (ENTIRELY FREE) THIS WINTER?
You have 2 easy options to help:

1️⃣ Remember that light pollution results in ...... every year. At night, turn off lights in your home to help birds navigate unharmed.

2️⃣ If you have a yard, keep those brush piles set aside rather than disposing of them. They can serve as shelter for birds and other wildlife through the winter.

Tip: Keeping your feeders up into the spring can help support birds on their long migrations north.
