You might not know the name, but since 1827 the world of 'classical ballet' has developed almost solely thanks to Marius Petipa. As a 9-year-old boy, Marius performed in his first ballet.......later heading to Russia to become one of the most influential choreographers in history. His life story is one of struggle and immense hardship yet filled with boundless creativity.

Now, a California foundation is preserving his incredible work and keeping the art form alive. The Petipa Heritage Foundation was established by two choreographers to honor the creative and academic genius of Petipa. Under their artistic guidance, reconstructed versions of many of Petipa’s treasured works have debuted with major companies worldwide. The foundation also recognizes exceptional talent in ballet across the globe.
