It's that time of year - warm, beautiful, and a time to plant or get flowers blooming. It got me thinking - how do veggies like heirloom tomatoes survive the times? Well, it doesn't happen purely by luck. The practice of "seed saving" has been going on for decades, and one Iowa farm in particular has become the largest (nongovernmental) seed bank in the country. They house seeds for some 20,000 varieties of heirloom varieties (tomatoes and a LOT more).

Whether you've got a big garden or you're working on a small indoor garden for your apartment/balcony, get to know seed banks and the art of seed saving.

🌱 Whether you want to boost biodiversity, join a community of like-minded gardneners, or share your seeds for safeguarding, consider getting involved with the Seed Savers Exchange. They're a nonprofit organization working to preserve this practice and keep edible plant varieties thriving. https://seedsavers.org/about/#our-mission
