Amid all of the discussion around a teacher shortage in the U.S., a topic that is about to get more attention is the September 2024 end of emergency funds for public schools. During the pandemic, $190 billion in emergency funding (thru the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) program) was provided to help school districts weather the storm. But now as these funds are set to expire, many are predicting teacher and staff layoffs.....not to mention what this means for children who have already been 'set back' academically.
