A Company That Helps: Johnson & Johnson
Note: ThatHelps is not paid or asked to feature any products or brands on our website. We just like to spotlight the good work being done by individuals, our cause partners, and Companies That Help.
You may know Johnson & Johnson for their baby shampoo and Band-Aids, but the pharmaceutical company is about more than filling up your medicine cabinet. They also give back in a pretty innovative way for their employees, who can take time off from work to volunteer for a non-profit. Johnson & Johnson launched the Extended Volunteer Leave Policy so workers can take up to two weeks away (one of them paid) to give back using their skills and expertise and help make a difference in the world. Giving an extended period of time to do volunteer work makes it easier for individuals to make a greater impact on the people they help because more of their time is focused and uninterrupted.
That’s not the only reason we’re casting shine on Johnson & Johnson.
The company is also a long-time supporter of our cause partner the International Rescue Committee, who responds to the world’s worst emergencies like the recent famine in northeast Africa and Yemen and delivers aid that literally saves lives. Since you probably don’t have the budget of a large corporation like J&J, find a few cost-free ways you can support the IRC.
Our partner the International Rescue Committee isn’t the only cause they support. The parent company of brands like Neutrogena and Band-Aid (to name but a few) also supports Save the Children, an organization that protects children’s rights in developing countries, and mMitra, a mobile maternal health program founded in India. They company prioritizes the United Nation’s sustainability goals like two other companies who help, Coca-Cola and Lush Cosmetics.
